FHN Direct
Aim
To foster closer working relationships between Institute of Food Research (IFR) scientists and our industrial colleagues. FHN Direct will enable IFR scientists to acquire a greater understanding of the issues affecting industry and so provide individually targeted solutions.
Rationale
This is a series of one-to-one confidential meetings with companies, under the protection of a confidentiality agreement. The format has 3 stages:
- Stage 1 - a general introduction to IFR’s research activities, led by the Head of the Food & Health Network (FHN). This may take the format of a surgery at the site of the company or at IFR. Stage 1 is a general introduction to areas of science rather than specific discussion of detailed issues.
- Stage 2 - a follow up stage, taking place after an agreed interval has passed, in order that industry can have time to decide the areas of IFR science that it wishes to pursue. Stage 2 will involve meetings with industry by the FHN team, including expert scientists, where appropriate, to address specific detailed issues raised in the Stage 1.
- Stage 3 - the company will be provided with a project proposal to investigate the specific issues identified in Stage 2.
The FHN Direct team will typically be three to four senior scientists with expertise in the areas relevant to the specific issues raised.
